black&write! Indigenous Writing and Editing Project

Annual national fellowships for Indigenous writers, and mentoring opportunities for Indigenous editors

black&write! is designed to recruit, train and mentor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander editors to develop Indigenous authored manuscripts. It consists of the annual kuril dhagun Indigenous writing fellowships and the kuril dhagun Indigenous editing mentorships.

Entries for the annual Writing Fellowships open around September each year and close the following January. There are two Fellowships on offer, each worth $10,000. They are open to Australian published or unpublished authors of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. Manuscripts in adult fiction, young adult fiction, poetry or children’s books are accepted, and entry is free. Recipients have the chance to work closely with Indigenous editors to get their manuscripts to publishable standard.

There are also opportunities available for Indigenous editors.

The fellowships and mentorships are named after the kuril dhagun Indigenous Knowledge Centre, located at the State Library of Queensland, South Bank.
