Australian Copyright Council
Provides information, advice and training about copyright law in Australia
The Australian Copyright Council assists creators and copyright owners to exercise their copyright rights effectively. The Council also raises awareness in the community about the importance of copyright as well as researching and identifying emerging areas of copyright law. The Council has an emphasis on law reform, by seeking to change the law where necessary and enhance the effectiveness and fairness of copyright.
The Australian Copyright Council is an independent non-profit organisation. The Council receives substantial funding from the Australia Council, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body and also earns income through its hosted activities.
The Council’s legal advice service is available for professional creators such as graphic and other visual artists, photographers, filmmakers, writers and musicians; arts organisations; and members of organisations affiliated with the Council. The service is also available to people working in educational institutions, libraries and governments.
History:The Australian Copyright Council was formed in 1968 to assist creators and copyright owners to exercise their copyright rights effectively.
