Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA) is the copyright collection society that is an association of composers, authors and publishers of music in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, having affiliations with similarly constituted organisations throughout the world. It is a not for profit organisation. APRA also provides funding to enable Q Music to continue its core activities. Q Music is Queensland’s music industry development association, and is focused on promoting the artistic value, cultural worth and commercial potential of Queensland music.
APRA and Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society Limited (AMCOS) work together to ensure that composers, songwriters and publishers are rewarded whenever, and wherever, their musical works are played, performed or reproduced and they aims to assist Australian and New Zealand music consumers get access to the world’s musical repertoire.
History:APRA was established in 1926 and now administers the performing and communication rights of more than 67,000 composer, songwriter and music publisher members in Australia and New Zealand.
