Community Broadcasting Association of Australia

The industry voice for community radio and television in Australia

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) is an independent organisation representing community broadcasters in Australia. Not only does the CBAA have a role in policy making, the organisation facilitates discussions and forums that aim to improve the quality of community broadcasting in Australia.

The CBAA also provides training to community radio broadcasters and is an established organisation rendering advisory services to community broadcasters pertaining to a variety of issues, ranging from copyright to tax issues. The organisation has established itself as an industry body that acts on behalf of community broadcasters nationally.

History:

The CBAA was founded in June of 1974 and reconstituted in June 1976 with licensees as Full Members, temporary licensees as Associate Members and other bodies as Affiliate Members. It was incorporated in June 1986.

The CBAA is managed between general meetings by an elected committee consisting of a President, Vice President Radio, Vice President TV, Staff Representative and, currently, four other members, with the power to co-opt. The committee currently co-opts a youth and women’s representative.
