Queensland Braille Writing Association

A voluntary association producing Braille resources for the community

The Queensland Braille Writing Association (QBWA) is a voluntary association that produces and maintains Braille reading matter for the Braille House Library. It is run by and managed by an elected council who regularly meets with executive and committee members.
Not only does the QBWA provide over 1000 resources transcribed into Braille, educational resources are also produced for primary and secondary schools and university students. These include resources such as text books, library books and tutorial notes.
In addition, a Braille reader may require assistance with bank statements, bus and rail timetables, religious courses, greeting cards, lists of telephone numbers and instructions for using equipment.
Other important aspects of QBWA include their own Braille Magazine, an annual Braille tactile calendar, teaching Braille and teaching the Moon system.

History:

Established in March of 1897, the QBWA was formed by a group of seven women to teach sighted and blind people to read and write Braille.
