Queensland Muslim Times
An English newspaper for the Muslim community in Queensland
The Queensland Muslim Times is a Brisbane-based English language newspaper providing a media source for the Muslim community in Queensland. The newspaper is run by a non-profit organisation and relies on advertising revenue and support from the community. The newspaper currently circulates 5000 copies around Queensland.
The Queensland Muslim Times emphasises its goal of unity by focusing on positive issues relevant to the Muslim community. The Queensland Muslim Times has a policy of avoiding conduct or the reporting of issues which may cause diversion and or disharmony amongst its audience. Although the newspaper focuses on the Muslim community, its content remains strictly non-theological and void of any sectarianism.
The Queensland Muslim Times provides an information base for Muslims of various cultures and backgrounds to positively interact amongst themselves and the wider Australian community. The newspaper achieves this by highlighting the positive contributions of Muslims to facilitate cultural, social and educational interaction and through promoting a message of understanding and tolerance. The Queensland Muslim Times also attempts to foster greater interest and participation by Muslims in the Australian democratic process.
History:The Queensland Muslim Times began in November 2004 and continues to be operated by a group of volunteer staff. An online edition of the newspaper is also available. The Muslim Times website received a make-over at the end of 2009, allowing greater interactivity with its audience.
