The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is dedicated to increasing awareness/consciousness of Krishna and Vedic culture around the world. Daily rituals are conducted which are open to the public.
Each Saturday, a weekly program is held with more than 200 people coming. The program consists of devotional chanting, a discourse by a member of the temple or congregation, an offering ceremony with chanting and culminates with a vegetarian feast. The program is sustained by donations from the wider congregation and therefore it is free to all those who attend. Larger festivals are also held on holy days throughout the year.
The temple also offers spiritual education for both adults and children. Saturday night classes for children are held during the discourse, so parents can concentrate without having to worry about their child’s wellbeing. Sunday School is available for parents who wish to further their child’s spiritual education.
One of the instructions of the founder is that no one should go hungry within a ten mile radius of our temple, so free meals are offered to all who visit the temple. As well as this, the temple runs three ‘Govindas’ vegetarian restaurants within the city. All of this information plus much more can be found on their website.
History:The Hare Krishna Temple has been operational in Graceville since the mid 1980s and attracts residents from all over Brisbane.
