Triple J 107.7 FM
Triple J is a national youth radio station as part of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Triple J is Australia’s only national youth broadcaster with a target demographic of 18 – 24 year olds. The station is widely known for its 100 per cent commercial free broadcasting, as well as consistently playing over 35 per cent of Australian music every month.
Most programs are based around music, some of them on one specific genre, with a presenter or presenters hosting segments in between that feature guests, competitions, music news, audience interactions and regular news bulletins. Triple J also focuses on current affairs and talk-back on issues affecting the youth audience. The station exclusively records and broadcasts many live music gigs. Triple J also broadcasts six different television programs on ABC2 providing a range of live music, requests, comedy, interviews and a behind the scenes look into the station.
The Triple J website provides a simulcast, podcasts, music news, presenter and program information as well as a gig guide.
Listeners can find Triple J by tuning into 107.7 FM, searching their DAB+ (digital) radio or through the website. DAB+ radio is currently only available in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, with more locations to be added progressively.
History:2JJ began in 1975 and headed straight into controversy after playing a song that was banned at the time. In 1980 the station moved to the FM band and changed its name to 2JJJ. In 1989 2JJJ expanded to all capital cities in 1989 and is now broadcasting to 95 per cent of the Australian population and over 46 rural centres, including smaller communities who have funded their own transmitters, as Triple J.
