4KQ 693 AM & Digital
4KQ is a popular AM station playing classic hits
4KQ 693 AM & Digital is considered one of the foremost AM music radio stations in Brisbane and represents the Queensland arm of the Australian Radio Network’s Classic Hits music stream, with similar stations located in most Australian capital cities. The Classic Hits brand is targeted towards men and women between 45 – 64 years and features music predominantly from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. 4KQ is a well-established Brisbane AM (& Digital) radio station with strong ties to the community. The 4KQ Christmas Lights competition is an extremely popular event each year in Brisbane.
The most recent Nielsen Company survey (2011) reports that 4KQ is the most popular radio station (AM & FM) with listeners 55 years and older. This is a large portion of their target audience.
History:4KQ was launched in 1945 by the Labor party. It was sold in 1986 to the Wesgo Company and was then publicly listed. It has remained a popular AM (now on Digital) station in Brisbane for over 50 years. 4KQ had the opportunity to convert to FM in the last round of capital city FM conversions, but declined due to the cost of the license. 4KQ is now also simulcasting on Digital – broadcast in stereo.
