Catholic Leader, The
Provides news and information to Catholics throughout Queensland
The Catholic Leader is published every Sunday by the Brisbane Archdiocese and is sold for two dollars at churches and hospitals throughout Australia. Its content covers Catholic issues as well as wider social topics examined from a Catholic viewpoint.
The paper has a circulation of approximately 13,000 papers, with a larger readership of 62,000 papers. It relies heavily on advertising funds to produce the non-profit publication, with both display and classified advertising available. The Catholic Leader also accepts insert advertising, however the material must not conflict with the objectives of the publications and the ideals of the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Leader’s principal audience is the Brisbane archdiocese, but it is steadily growing in popularity nationwide.
The Catholic Leader website, www.catholicleader.com.au, incorporates The Catholic Leader’s aims and includes selected articles from the newspaper and advertising information. It also offers a search facility for online stores. The website also features a photo gallery of major events within the Brisbane Catholic Archdiocese.
History:The Catholic Leader began after the demise of The Age in 1929 and it continues to be a significant voice and platform for the Catholic community.
Four Catholic newspapers preceded The Catholic Leader in Brisbane, each of which failed due to financial difficulty.
