Angela Brown’s role as Team Support means that she is central to nearly everything that goes on at Bluewire Media. Her experience provides a valuable insight into the world of web.
Describe a typical day in your role as Team Support for Bluewire Media?
I’m quite lucky that my position allows me to be involved in several aspects of the company. Not only do I fill the position of support person but I am also involved in sales, HR, resource coordination, accounts, minor project work and I’m currently looking after our Quality Assurance.
Best and worst part of your job?
The best part of my job is the involvement I have had with our Quality Assurance and the role I have taken as Quality Manager, being part of creating processes and then maintaining and improving these on an ongoing basis is very rewarding.
I’d say the worst part is that my job is so varied that sometimes it can feel that I’m spread quite thinly, however, I tend to look at this as a challenge and we continually try to refine our processes to improve work-flow and reduce bottlenecks.
If you had to give one piece of advice to a professional entering the web design and marketing industry, what would it be?
I’m sure that anyone entering the web design industry already understands the importance of keeping up to date with new trends and technologies. Things change so quickly in this industry that you have to be prepared to keep learning and not have too narrow a focus.
What challenges (if any), does your company face in regards to new media technologies?
To stay on top of our game we need to focus on understanding what is taking place online so that we are able to provide relevant and up-to-date advice to our clients. The challenge here is to wade through the multitude of information that’s out there and focus on those areas that will benefit our clients.
How important do you think it is for companies to have a web strategy when advertising their services?
There are just so many elements that make up the web. A good web strategy will focus on knowing who your market is, what problems you solve for them, why they would choose to buy from you and where to find them will help you to focus your attention more accurately.
What role do you think web strategy will play in the development of the media and communications industries in the near future?
With all elements of the web becoming so important in the lives of everyday people, web strategy should become a very big part of both industries. The way in which people view and interact with the world is very different to what it used to be and web strategy will help companies communicate effectively.
What can we expect to see from Bluewire Media in the next 12 months?
We have recently gained international recognition from best-selling author David Meerman Scott for our One Page Web Strategy Plan tool, which has been designed to help organisations get the most out of the entire internet. In the coming 12 months we will continue to focus our attention on the importance of web strategy and using this one page tool to simplify what can be an extremely daunting and often unfamiliar area.
