Do you offer internships / work-experience?
Yes we do. We currently have a QUT student undertaking an internship in our marketing team.
What do you find is the most common mistake a graduate can make?
Expecting too much too soon. Be prepared to start and the bottom. Learn everything. Then you will have opportunities for promotion in due course.
If someone could have given you one piece of advice at the beginning of your career, what should it have been?
I am really happy about how my career began. It was as I mentioned above. Starting at the bottom. Learned everything I could (and more). Demonstrated 100% dedication and passion. The rewards came in due course.
What are the significant steps you took in creating the career you have today?
Firstly, getting an entry level position. Then on an ongoing basis taking on more and more responsibility. Moving agency only when the timing was right for me and my career. Most recently combining all of my advertising and marketing skills into the field that I’m most passionate about and joining the client side.
What are some misconceptions about hiring graduates? How important are GPA’s?
No sure about mis conceptions. But, GPA’s are important. There are a lot of graduates each Semester and you can not interview all of them, so you need to use something as a method of reducing the number of applicants. A good GPA will at least get you onto the interview list.
As a media professional, what is your forecast of the possible future media trends in Brisbane?
No trends will be local. Everything is global. Digital will continue to dominate future media trends. Most specifically personalisation and consumer choice (which we are already seeing elements of now).
How does globalisation influence your career and the company you work for?
The world is one market place. From a media perspective globalisation assists us in Australia in terms of learning what to do and what not to do from countries who are a little more advanced than us.
