Amnesty International
An organisation devoted to defending human rights
Amnesty International is an international human rights organisation. The organisation seeks to uncover human rights abuses, campaign to raise awareness, lobby government and provide support to victims of human rights violations. Amnesty International bases its work on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. One of the prime tenets of Amnesty International is impartiality and non-partisanship.
Some of the ongoing issues the Queensland group of Amnesty International seeks to address include the abolition of the death penalty and refugee rights. There is also a Queensland and Northern New South Wales schools network. All of the branch’s activities are from the Activist Centre in Fortitude Valley.
