Multicultural Affairs Queensland

Funding Body for Queensland Multicultural Events and Programs

Multicultural Affairs Queensland provides advice on multicultural issues, coordinating multicultural policy development and planning across the Queensland Government. Multicultural Affairs Queensland also promotes positive community relations such as: the Queensland Multicultural Festival, Queensland Multicultural Awards and the Premier’s Multicultural Photographic Awards. Multicultural Affairs Queensland is owned by the Department of Communities sector of the Queensland Government.

Multicultural Affairs Queensland coordinates whole-of-Government implementation of the Queensland Government’s Multicultural Policy by developing strategies and providing advice to government agencies on the best way to deliver programs and services to a culturally diverse society, including the implementation of the Queensland Government Language Services Policy, which is designed to enhance service delivery to non-English speaking clients. Multicultural Affairs Queensland offers a Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) via the phone number 131 450.

Community organisations are invited to apply for grants under the Multicultural Assistance Program to support local multicultural events and projects. Applications close in November annually.
