The Dreaming Festival
An Australian and international indigenous cultural festival
The Dreaming is an international Indigenous festival held annually during June long weekend, over three days and four nights in Woodford, Queensland, Australia.
The festival hosts more than 800 performers and artists each year, representing some 118 different nations and language groups of Australia along with 12 overseas countries including Canada, Indonesia, French Guyana, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, East Timor, Cambodia, United States of America, Japan, New Zealand and the Pacific Rim. Theatre, music, workshops, dance, forums, film, galleries, visual arts, varied media, story tellers, healers, guest speakers and traditional ceremony are all used to showcase the different first nations groups.
The Dreaming festival isset on 500 acres in a beautiful intimate bush setting. The event has established itself as one of the most significant Indigenous showcases on the national and international scene.
The Queensland Folk Federation (QFF) presents The Dreaming under the Artistic Direction of Sam Cook. With daily programs featuring film and literature components, performing arts, new media and digital technologies, food & market stalls, comedy, exhibitions, visual arts, craft workshops, street performers and a youth program.
History:The Dreaming festival began its annual celebrations at Woodford in 2005, with 2010 marking the sixth festival. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the QFF and the traditional custodians of the area, the Jinibara people. This understanding attempts to involve and consider the local Aboriginal people and their culture in all events.
