Brisbane Queer Film Festival

Annual festival showcasing cinemas by, for and about the queer community

Tailored to Queensland audiences, The Brisbane Queer Film Festival is an annual event that celebrates queer cinema. The festival showcases films that rarely receive mainstream theatrical or television release. It features a variety of short films, documentaries, features, and foreign films.

The program of events includes screenings, film packages, forums, and discussions dedicated to the growth of cinema and queer culture in Queensland.

The festival runs over approximately a week and is designed to create an environment for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community to come together and engage in a cinematic experience in which diversity is celebrated. Queensland filmmakers are actively encouraged to submit their work to the festival.

The festival is coordinated by Brisbane Powerhouse, sponsored annually by Volkswagen, and supported by the Pacific Film and Television Commission.

The Brisbane Queer Film Festival was established in 2000. It is now the largest festival celebrating queer cinema in Queensland.
