ROOM40
An independent Brisbane record label dedicated to unique and experimental sounds
ROOM40 has presented over 300 artists in Australia, Japan, USA, Singapore, UK and numerous countries in Europe. Curated by Lawrence English, the label continues to publish in and around the margins of each of these fields of electronics, improvisation, experimental pop and sound art. Drawing on a diverse roster of both established and emergent sound makers. The label actively coordinates and curates numerous art projects. In 2007, ROOM40’s Lawrence English recorded the Airport Symphony with Brisbane Airport Corporation, commissioned by the Queensland Music Festival.
ROOM40 is also a key partner working across the state with a variety of other production houses and venues including the Brisbane Powerhouse, Centre of Contemporary Arts (Cairns), Perc Tucker Gallery (Townsville), Judith Wright Centre, Institute of Modern Art and many others.
ROOM40 also produces numerous events, festivals and exhibitions in Australia and beyond. ROOM40 is dedicated to the increasing awareness of new sound cultures in Queensland and abroad. The current 2011 website allows for CD purchases, also available in MP3 downloads, and supplies information for submitting demos to ROOM40.
History:ROOM40 is an independent label and multi-arts organisation based in Brisbane, Australia. ROOM40 is dedicated to the growth, promotion and development of Australian sound art culture. Since 2000, ROOM40 has released over 75 high quality editions and multiples in the fields of electronics, improvisation, experimental pop and sound art.
