Dykes on Mykes
A lesbian-focused community radio program
Dykes On Mykes is a Brisbane-based radio show airing on 4ZZZ from 7-9pm every Wednesday evening. It is aired before the Queer Radio program. The show is presented entirely by women and includes news items, local community promotion, astrology and music by female artists. Dykes On Mykes also features guests who are involved with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gender (GLBT) community and readings by GLBT authors.
The program actively seeks to involve its listeners, encouraging people to call the presenters on air and share their stories. The show is seen by its host station as an important asset to the GLBT community as it provides information and support that can be accessed at individual discretion.
History:Dykes On Mykes started in 1992 as The Lesbian Show, and was aired on 4ZZZ every three weeks as part of a program cycle. It was renamed Dykes on Mykes in the mid 1990s. It has been running in its present slot on a weekly basis since August 2002.
