Queer Radio

A queer focused community radio program

Read the interview with Aaron Holloway, Co-host

Queer Radio is a one hour program presented by Mark Jeffery and Aaron Holloway. It airs on 4ZZZ every Wednesday from 9pm to 11pm. The show has a gay male focus but aims to be fully inclusive. It reaches the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community within the greater Brisbane area. It is broadcast as far north as Noosa, as far west as Toowoomba, and as far south as the Gold Coast.

The program is set up in a magazine style dealing with specific topics. Invited guests range from those involved in the local GLBT community to queer artists and activists from Australia and overseas. It incorporates interviews and discussions important to the GLBT community. It captures a demographically broad range of listeners by featuring new and old music. The program involves listeners, encouraging people to call in while on air and share their stories.

History:

Queer Radio was incorporated into 4ZZZ’s list of programming in 1978. Between 1994 and 2005 it was presented by John Frame, an individual heavily involved in the GLBT community in Brisbane for many years. Queer Radio is seen by its host station as an important asset to the GLBT community, providing information and support that can be accessed at an individual’s own discretion. The Queer Radio website allows its audience to access past show archives as well as providing links to GLBT related sites.
