Jschool

Education and training institution specialising in journalism

Read the interview with Dr John Henningham, Director

Jschool is an Australian College with a curriculum designed from extensive industry input and approval to provide industry-relevant education and training in journalism. The diploma of journalism is a one-year full-time course, preparing students for cadetship positions in newspapers and other news organisations. The focus is on the development of practical skills, relevant theory and education, including law and ethics. Intensive training is provided in news reporting, writing methods, technical skills and supervised work placements on newspapers.

Much of Jschool’s teaching is conducted in the field. This includes newspaper offices, courts, the Parliament House press gallery and at news conferences in and around Brisbane. Jschool students showcase their work in the online newspaper Newsbytes. This practical learning approach enables broader industry knowledge and experience in a range of issues and environments. Australian students are able to use the Government-funded student loan scheme FEE-HELP to cover tuition costs.
