Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS)

An institution providing educational training in film, television and radio

The Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) is the national institution for education and training in film, television, and radio. The national headquarters is located in Sydney, with branch offices in Melbourne and Brisbane. AFTRS representatives can also be found in Adelaide, Perth and Hobart.

The AFTRS Queensland branch offers approximately 30 workshops and courses in the local Brisbane area each year. The courses offered cover areas such as new trends in documentary, introduction to final cut pro, interviewing techniques for television, radio broadcasting, screen testing and casting, script editing for TV series, drama of screenwriting and terror of comedy.

The AFTERS owns a fully comprehensive research library, computer labs, a full sized theatre, mixing studios and film and television studios. Apart from its extensive facilities, they also offers production support to students, arranges courses in North Queensland and provides a directory on its homepage with related websites for reference to the Film, Television and Radio industries.

History:

The AFTRS was established in 1972 and later officially opened in 1973 in New South Wales as part of the Commonwealth Government’s strategy to promote the development of Australian cultural activity.
