ABC1

A public television channel in Australia

ABC1 is the responsibility of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Television Division (ABC TV). It is a government funded, free to air television channel consumed throughout Australia. It is a provider of a variety of news and entertainment programs, fostering the arts and reflecting the nation’s cultural diversity.

ABC1 is primarily broadcast from New South Wales, Australia. However, programs with Brisbane based features such as those featured on Lateline and 7:30 Report are broadcast from Mt Coot-tha, Queensland.

ABC1 has a strong focus on news and current affairs. However, it also presents an array of content including documentaries and educational programs, children?s shows, comedy, sports, drama programs and lifestyle programs.

History:

ABC 1 is the successor channel of ABC TV, which launched on 5 November 1956 as the first channel broadcast by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
