It provides a forum space for public, social and political debate relating to current Australian issues. The site encourages rational, intellectual contributions from users, and is unique in its aim of facilitating robust public debate and discussion about Australian current affairs. The site’s content is updated on week days featuring anywhere from six to seven new articles daily.
On Line Opinion is a popular politics site and serves over 344,000 pages every month to more than 80,000 unique browsers. It has over 40,000 registered users and sends out over 42,000 emails every week. Past issues covered have included economics, national and foreign politics, media and the arts, religion and philosophy, the environment, health and technology.
History:The first edition of On Line Opinion was published in April, 1999, by the journal’s founder, Graham Young from Coorparoo, Queensland. During the first years, On Line Opinion focused on building a community that could harness and focus on the views from civil and political society.
Their site includes a forum where users can start their own discussions, and have aggregated a number of Australian political blogs under their Domain brand. On Line Opinion also conducts large scale qualitative polling using the internet as a way of modifying the vox pop so that it can more truly reflect community sentiment.
