Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, The

An integrated creative arts exhibition, performance and rehearsal space

The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, situated in the Fortitude Valley, is a live music and entertainment venue with a vision to generate a unique blend of contemporary dance, music, visual arts, contemporary circus, multimedia, indigenous theatre, youth arts and screen culture.

The Judith Wright Centre incorporates a 300-seat performance space, modern art gallery, artist studios, a screening room, ShopFront space and workshops, along with theatre, music, dance and circus rehearsal spaces.

Work by independent Brisbane artists as well as local, interstate and international productions and exhibitions are regularly shown in the Centre, with a contemporary performance program featuring cabaret, world music, electronica, jazz, indie, contemporary dance, theatre, new media and new circus.

Youth Arts Queensland, CIRCA, Expressions Dance Company, the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), Freshwater Productions, Ausdance Queensland, and Kooemba Jdarra Indigenous Performing Arts are current creative industry tenants of the Centre, representing the breadth and depth of Queensland’s art community.

Named after the late Queensland poet and environmental activist, the establishment of the Judith Wright Centre in 2001 is the result of a unique partnership between seven founding arts organisations and the Queensland Government.
