Australian Associated Press
Australian Associated Press provides news, images and multi-media solutions.
Established more than 65 years ago, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) is Australia’s national news agency; providing news, images and information services to the media, commercial organisations and government. With domestic and international bureaus located in prominent places such as Sydney and London, AAP is able to provide its news service in a timely and independent fashion.
One of AAP’s major services is media monitoring. AAP’s Newscentre is Australia’s only media monitoring service that gives clients the power to monitor breaking news through press clippings, radio and television broadcast clips and the internet. AAP’s Medianet provides press release distribution to public relations, corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations.
AAP offers internship placements to final-year students of university journalism degrees and to post-graduates within 12 months of graduation. For those who seek a career in journalism, internships are one week in duration, comprised of five consecutive days.
Additionally, AAP offers a cadet training program that provides experience in general reporting, sport, finance, politics and courts. Cadets are taught how to write and type fast, where speed and accuracy is the main principle.
History:Australian Associated Press was founded in 1935 as a cooperative news gathering organisation for the mutual benefit of its 14 newspaper members. AAP’s first chairman was Sir Keith Murdoch.
