Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia

An international market research, information and analysis company

Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia is the largest provider of Television Audience Measurement (TAM) services in the world. It was originally established in 1999 as AGB Nielsen Media Research, when the AGB Group was awarded a seven year contract to conduct TAM in the five major Australian metropolitan markets from 1 January 2001. Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia has since been awarded the contract to conduct and market TAM data for regional markets as of January 2003 and to report Subscription Television as of August 2003.

In April 2007 OzTAM reappointed Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia as the supplier of TAM services for the Australian metropolitan markets. The seven year agreement commenced on 1 January 2008.

Today, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia produces five daily audience databases on behalf of both OzTAM and Regional TAM and also releases daily people meter data for the Regional Western Australian market.

Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia currently employs over 180 people and is also supported by The Nielsen Company’s Corporate Centre in Lugano, Switzerland.

History:

Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia (formerly known as AGB Nielsen Media Research) is a subsidiary of what is now known as The Nielsen Company. Before becoming its own company in 1996, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement Australia was a division of ACNielsen. ACNielsen was established in 1923 in the United States by Arthur C Nielsen Senior and opened its first office in Australia in 1948. In February 2001, Nielsen Media Research, as well as ACNielsen, became part of the Dutch publishing company, VNU. VNU was privatised in 2006 and was renamed The Nielsen Company in 2007.
