Contemporary Music Touring Program

A government-funding initiative for touring musicians in Australia

The Contemporary Music Touring Program (CMTP) is a function of the Australian Government that is run through the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Office for the Arts. It is a funding program that provides financial support for touring activities to the contemporary music sector. The program’s key focus is to encourage touring to regional and remote areas, which may involve the transporting of artists to or from those regions. By promoting contemporary music in those regions, the program aims to increase audience access to this sector of the arts; and also to boost touring opportunities for Australian musicians.

All professional members of the music industry may apply for grants from the CMTP. This includes performers, managers, agents, music networks and music organisations representing all contemporary music genres however applicants must be Australian residents and must be performing original Australian contemporary music. The maximum grant is $10,000. Applicants are assessed by the Contemporary Music Touring Committee and approved by the federal Minister for the Arts.
