Australian Directors Guild

An industry association representing directors and producers in Australia

The Australian Directors Guild (ADG) is an industry association that represents the interests of film, television, television commercial and digital media directors, documentary makers, animators, assistant directors and independent producers within Australia. The association advocates for the protection of the director’s creative and economic rights and the status of the director’s professional role. The ADG provide a voice for directors and independent filmmakers in industry and government debates; ensuring the perspective of the creative filmmaking industry is taken into account by the Government, and that directors continue to lead the industry agenda.

The ADG offers memberships whereby industry representation and support is offered. The ADG creates opportunities for members to develop their craft skills and extend industry knowledge via its annual events program. At the same time the association attempts to bring together filmmakers to discuss industry concerns and form creative partnerships.

History:

The ADG association was established in 1980 to represent the interests of directors, writers, independent producers and assistant directors. The association now maintains several industry affiliations as initiatives to enrich the industry. These affiliations now include Australian Screen Directors Authorship Collecting Society (ASDACS), Ozdox and the Independent Producers Initiative Inc (IPI).
