Read the interview with Jon Adams, Senior Communications Officer
Arts Queensland is a division of the Queensland Government and part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC). Its purpose is to improve the community through developing and implementing cultural policy, administering cultural funding and capital works programs that support arts and cultural development.
Arts Queensland aims to build a creative Queensland through targeting its support towards Indigenous, regional, cultural and youth arts. As the government’s key funding advisory and advocacy body for the state, Arts Queensland develops innovative programs and partnerships and sets policy direction for the government’s significant investment in arts and culture.
Arts Queensland administers project grants to programs that will contribute to the life of Queenslanders. This allows the department to directly respond to the arts and cultural needs of the state. Arts Queensland also implements strategic policies and research initiatives into Queensland’s arts and culture.
Arts Queensland participates in, and contributes to, a variety of national and international forums and events. These include the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM), BIGSOUND, The Dreaming, SXSW, Woodford Folk Festival, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, Brisbane Writer’s Festival and Brisbane Festival. Arts Queensland also contributes to the Queensland Multicultural Festival which is held annually at Roma Street Parklands.
History:Established in 2001 by the Justice of the Attorney General, Arts Queensland consists of five cultural statutory bodies and four Government owned companies.
