AICA represents the Australian Indigenous media and communication industry
The Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA) represents members of the Australian Indigenous media and communications industry. They are also advocates for and formulate policy on behalf of their members.
The AICA endeavours to represent all Indigenous controlled organisations and Indigenous individuals that are actively involved in or connected with the media, communications or entertainment industry in Australia. The AICA also ensure that Indigenous voices are heard in other parts of Australia and overseas.
The purpose of AICA is to assist communications between Indigenous media within Australia and to provide help during the process of creating and sustaining Indigenous media forms.
The primary objectives of the AICA is to advocate, lobby and formulate policy that supports the Australian Indigenous media and communication industry in the key sectors of broadcasting, print, online, film, video, television and communications. AICA undertakes this role by acting as a representative to the Australian Federal Government and providing a unified industry influence for Indigenous media reforms.
History:The AICA was founded in 2003 to address the lack of integration of Indigenous media in Australia. This organisation replaced the role of the National Indigenous Media Association of Australia after the termination of its service.
