Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance
Trade union providing representation for media and entertainment professionals
The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) is a union that advocates for professionals in the media, entertainment, performing arts, and broadcast sport industries. Its members include those working in television, radio, theatre, film, music, entertainment venues, newspapers, magazines, publishers, interactive media, public relations and advertising.
The MEAA is registered with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and representation is based on the branch and sectional structure of the organisation. There are eight branches of the MEAA, one in each state, plus an additional branch in both the ACT and Northern NSW.
History:The MEAA was formed in May 1992 through the merger of three unions, Actor’s Equity, the Australian Journalist’s Association (AJA), and the Australian Theatrical and Amusement Employees Association (ATAEA).
