Uniikup Productions Limited
developing media arts practice unique to venerable Indigenous society.
Uniikup Productions Limited is a specialist, community based, Indigenous media arts organisation contributing to a unique Australian screen culture. Uniikup produces documentaries, drama and new media projects with and within Indigenous communities to develop community media arts. In addition, Uniikup has conducted social justice programs and provided advice to the government on Indigenous media arts development. The company also presents Colourise Festival, organised by Uniikup’s innovative screen culture based creative consultancy service, Colourise. The event is designed to promote and create innovative new screen culture work, new collaborations and partnerships and to initiate new audiences.
History:Uniikup is a media development initiative of the Brisbane Indigenous community. Murriimage Community Video and Film Service (along with Radio 4AAA) was established in 1985. Out of this initiative emerged Uniikup Productions Limited in 1994, a not-for-profit company. Numerous media arts programs for Indigenous community organisations, individuals and government agencies have been produced by Uniikup over the past 25 years, with the purpose of promoting Indigenous society and culture.
