Bay FM, broadcasting from the frequency 100.3FM, is Brisbane’s bayside not-for-profit community radio station. The station is situated at Thornlands in Redland City, and broadcasts to the bayside areas of Redlands, Wynnum-Manly, Moreton Bay Islands and the eastern suburbs of Brisbane. However, their broadcast can be heard as far away as the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and the Gold Coast. Living up to their mission statement of an independent community responsive radio, informing and entertaining, locally and globally, the station structured its format to be listening throughout the day, with a variety of genres broadcast at night and on weekends such as blues, jazz, alternative rock, heavy metal and country.
Bay FM can also be tuned in through online streaming that consists of 80 per cent music (which includes the required 20 per cent Australian composition and artists) and 20 per cent spoken word. Programs featured on the station include cultural, educational, religion, philosophical, community service, schools and sporting programs. Daily news, interviews, community events and announcements are also included in the broadcast format. The station aims to provide a viable quality broadcasting service, which is entertaining and enables wide community access and participation with a bayside community focus.
History:The Bayside Community Radio Association was formed in 1986, with Bay FM’s official broadcast beginning in 1998. They have won various award such as 2002 Regional Achievers Awards and Community Year Award. For the past fifteen years, the station has focused on maintaining its high amount of community involvement and has 65 different presenters today.
