Australian independent hip-hop record label

Hydrofunk Records is an independent hip-hop music label that represents a number of well known Australian acts. The label is consistently searching for new underground hip-hop acts in Brisbane and throughout Australia. Hydrofunk Records aims to promote underground beats and hip-hop into the view of the wider music listening community. The label represents several well known hip-hop acts such as the Resin Dogs, 2 Dogs, Afro Dizzi Act, Good Buddha and Def Wish Cast.

Hydrofunk is home to subsidiary record label Hydropunk Records and also works in partnership with international industry organisations.

Hydrofunk Records 2011 releases included Beats Working and Red Bantoo.

Originally, the name Hydrofunk was given to a series of hip-hop events in 1994 that gave local artists an opportunity to perform. In 1995, Hydrofunk founder DJ Katch met Dave Atkins through various live funk, jazz, and hip-hop projects. Together they formed Hydrofunk Records in response to Brisbane’s lack of outlets for underground hip-hop . Hydrofunk Records secured a label distribution deal with Virgin/EMI in 1999. In 2002, Hydrofunk Records licensed its first overseas label, London underground hip-hop label Low Life Records with artists Rodney P, Braintax and Jehst.
