Independent Indigenous record label

Daki Budtcha Records is an Indigenous owned and run record label that promotes Indigenous Australian culture. Daki Budtcha aims to revive and link the company to the traditional owners of Brisbane, the Turrbal, Redcliffe and the Ningy Ningy cultures in South-East Queensland. The label also engages and facilitates in cross-cultural exchange with other Indigenous races of the world.

Daki Budtcha Records is also involved in the protection of the traditional knowledge (intellectual property) of Indigenous Australians. The name Daki Budtcha was drawn from the Turrbal people of Brisbane and the Dippil people of the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast areas of Queensland. The name is associated with the Glass House Mountains.

The company supports music, theatre, film and video production, distribution, marketing and promotions. The company also provides services including artist management, multi-media services, consultancy and educational services.

History:

Daki Budtcha Records was established in the late 1980s by Maroochy Barambah and Ade Kukoyi. The record label was formed to protect, maintain and promote the integrity of Indigenous culture throughout Australia and internationally. An ongoing challenge for the label is to execute these activities in a culturally appropriate manner.
