Colourise Festival
Australian Indigenous media arts festival
Colourise is a non-for-profit community festival that promotes and inspires production of local, national and international Indigenous community screen culture in partnership with arts, education and training organisations.
As part of the celebrations of the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) gathering season, the event is staged in early July at venues throughout Brisbane, from community halls and ovals to inner city restaurants and prominent arts venues. A tribute ceremony is featured, which pays respect to prominent local Indigenous people and highlights family values and traditions.
Drawing from the customs and potential of a collaborative arts culture, the festival marries the vitality of the Indigenous community with a showcase of exciting new screen culture art forms and talent.
In 2007, Colourise Festival formed a partnership with the International Film Festival, creating ColouriseBIFF. This partnership aims to broaden the view on national and international Indigenous cultural practices and perspectives.
History:Colourise Festival is presented by Uniikup Productions Ltd, a community-based media arts group, and is organised by Colourise, Uniikup’s innovative screen culture-based creative consultancy service.
