Access Arts Inc.
A not-for-profit arts organisation for people with disabilities
Access Arts Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that works with people experiencing disabilities, and people disadvantaged by social conditions, in order to assist them in fulfilling their ambitions in the arts.
Access Arts Inc. is funded by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, Department of Families, Youth and Community Care and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. It is also assisted by the Brisbane City Council.
The projects run by Access Arts Inc. balance integrated community projects, skills and confidence development classes. Its projects are open to all participants and designed to cater for people with high support needs. It is a member-driven organisation, with over 75 per cent of its members experiencing a disability. Members are consulted through personal interviews and board meetings to ensure the activities of Access Arts Inc. constantly reflect the goals and aspirations of its members.
History:Since its inception in 1983, Access Arts Inc. has developed a national profile. It involves people with disabilities, and those who are socially disadvantaged, in the design and production of quality art works, performances and cultural events.
Access Arts Inc. has built a strong reputation over 14 years as a result of its high standard of arts events and other arts advocacy programs for this niche market. Various programs run by Access Arts Inc. include Sound Circles, Indigenous Projects, Currumbin Crossing Divides Project and the Brisbane Outsider Artists Studio.
