Australian Domain Name Administrator, The

Policy authority and industry self-regulator for .au domain space

The Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA) was formally named as the managing body for the .au domain space in 1999 after its efforts in the area since 1995. Whilst the Government still holds power in relation to domain names under the Telecommunications Act 1997, in 2000, auDA was endorsed as the appropriate body to administer the .au domain space.

The auDA’s primary roles are to develop and implement domain name policy for the .au space, accredit and license registrars, establish consumer safeguards and facilitate .au domain space dispute resolution policies.

As auDA is a policy authority and self-regulatory body, it does not register, renew or redelegate domain names. For auDA accredited registrars of domain names, please visit their website (http://www.auda.org.au).
