City News

A free news magazine focused on Brisbane’s central business district

City News is a newspaper/magazine that serves readers in Brisbane’s central business district (CBD) and surrounding areas. The full-colour paper contains features on entertainment, news, lifestyle and fashion, social pages, real estate and editorial content relevant to Brisbane’s inner-city workers and residents. It combines elements of a newspaper and a magazine to form a publication specially tailored for an inner-Brisbane audience.

City News is distributed free of charge every Thursday on the streets of Brisbane’s CBD, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Newstead, Teneriffe and surrounding suburbs. It can be found in cafes, shops and on sidewalks.

City News also targets the commuter market and can be found at the four major Brisbane City railway stations – Central, Roma Street, Fortitude Valley and South Brisbane.

As recorded in March 2010, City News’ circulation stood at 49,808 with a readership of 53,000.

History:

City News was launched in 1989. In 2003, the publication re-launched itself into the inner-city market place to respond to the CBD’s residential growth, the new South Bank precinct and the subsequent professional spirit driven by population and economic growth in these areas. As part of the transformation, City News converted to an innovative full-colour news magazine, purposely setting out to blur the boundaries between magazines and newspapers.

As of 2008, City News has been grouped under the new parent company name of News Community Media which encompasses all of the News Limited community newspapers.
