Children’s Book Council of Australia, The
An organisation dedicated to the promotion of children’s literature
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is dedicated to fostering children’s literature. With branches in each of Australia’s capital cities and many regional branches, the CBCA aims to promote children’s enjoyment of books through several initiatives.
These include the annual Children’s Book Week, which is held in mid to late August, the Children’s Book of the Year Awards and the ongoing provision of information about authors and illustrators. The CBCA also provides invaluable support to teachers and librarians.
Information about children’s literature is distributed through the organisation’s newsletter, website and speakers who address professional and community groups, as well as phone and fax enquiries through the office.
All work is voluntary and initiated by people who are committed to bringing children and good books together.
History:The CBCA is a volunteer run, not for profit, organisation that was established in 1945 and is comprised of branches of individual members who are passionate about children’s and young adult literature.
The CBCA Mission Statement: to foster the enjoyment of children’s literature and to promote its value throughout the community.
