Focus

Newspaper written for the Anglican community throughout Queensland

Focus is the newspaper of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, which covers the Brisbane metropolitan area, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast areas, and west to the Queensland/Northern Territory border.

It is produced by the Anglican Media Office based in the diocesan offices at St Martin’s House, Brisbane, and is a 16-page monthly tabloid published from February to December.

14,000 copies of the newspaper are distributed throughout the diocese, with a readership estimated at 25,000. The newspaper provides local, national and international news, regular columns, book and movie reviews, and features.

Focus is delivered free to parishes, Anglican agencies and schools and is available in churches on the first Sunday of every month except January. It is also available on a subscription basis.

Approximately one-third of the newspaper’s budget is met through advertising fees.

Over the past two years Focus has changed from being published and printed out-of-house to a complete in-house document. Focus also recently changed from a black and white publication to full colour.

Originally, the Anglican Church produced a major publication called the Church Chronicle but it was replaced by a one-page document titled Diocesan Newsletter, which kept parishes up to date with major items of Anglican news. In 1986 the Diocesan Newsletter was replaced by another major newspaper publication similar to the original Church Chronicle, called Focus. This publication was similar in format to the current publication.
