Read the interview with Chloe Cassidy, Documentary Producer
Ten is an Australian free-to-air channel catering to family entertainment. Ten has achieved success through its low operating costs, innovative programming and a targeted demographic.
Ten provides ‘big event’ television and features a mixture of Australian and international programming. Successful programs such as Masterchef, The Renovators and The 7pm Project have maintained strong appeal amongst the under-50 demographic.
Ten broadcasts in Australia’s five mainland metropolitan markets via Network Ten owned-and-operated stations. In Brisbane, Ten’s affiliate is TVQ, which produces Brisbane’s 5pm news, Totally Wild, Scope, Toasted TV and Puzzle Play.
History:The first of the stations that are part of today’s Network Ten began broadcasting in 1959, as ADS-7 in Adelaide (now ADS-10). ATV-0 began broadcasting in Melbourne in 1964 with Ten hitting Sydney and Brisbane in 1965.
What is today’s Network Ten was created in 1995 with the purchase of the Adelaide and Perth stations – ADS-10 and NEW-10. Ten was the first station in Australia to broadcast television in colour in 1975 and was also the first Australian station to switch to digital in 2001.
