Nine
National broadcaster and local television network
Nine is one of Australia’s biggest free-to-air television stations, which is broadcast in both metropolitan and regional areas and is one of the three major commercial television networks that broadcast in the Brisbane area. Nine produces a wide variety of programming for both state and national markets.
Nine’s diverse programming incorporates content that targets all demographics. Some of the most popular shows broadcast include Underbelly Razor, The Block, The Big Bang Theory, Top Gear and Two and a Half Men. Nine also announced in September that they would be hosting Big Brother 2012. Furthermore in 2009 the Nine Network signed a $500 million deal with Warner Brothers to continue its broadcast rights to movies and television series.
Nine also features a range of news and current affairs programs including Australian Current Affair, 60 Minutes and local news content, which is produced from its Mt-Cootha based studios.
Nine also broadcasts a wide range of sports programming including the National Rugby League, Commonwealth Bank Series Cricket, Telstra Swimming Championship and the British and US Open. They have also secured broadcast rights for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
History:Nine was the first channel to broadcast to the Australian public when it was launched on 16 September 1956.
