It has been a part of all the major conservation issues in Queensland since it was first created in 1962, including campaigns to protect important places such as the Great Barrier Reef and Fraser Island. The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland is a community environmental organisation with a diverse and dedicated team of members, volunteers, supporters and staff united by a passion for wildlife and conservation. It deals with the daily demands of state wide environmental issues, is the focal point for major campaigns and policy development, and is the driving force behind significant wildlife projects. Projects in 2009 included the Queensland Glider Network and Mangrove Watch. The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland was founded to educate the community about wildlife and wildlife issues. It continues to do this through regular special events, its website, publications, and its full colour natural journal Wildlife Australia. The Wildlife Australia magazine was first published in 1963 to educate and engage the public in understanding, appreciating and protecting Australia’s wildlife. History:The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland was founded in 1962 as a community-based, non-profit incorporated association. Its original campaign in 1967 saw the protection of the Great Barrier Reef. The Society’s first members were concerned about the increasing destruction of the natural environment and felt that by establishing an organisation to work for conservation and continuing environmental education, the community could be encouraged to be aware of, and accept, sound conservation ideals.
