Bridge to Brisbane

A fun run held in Brisbane each year

Bridge to Brisbane is a charity event held in Brisbane each year in August. The race distance is currently 10 km, although this has not been consistent over the life of the race.

The race takes place between the Gateway Bridge southern toll way in Lytton and the Ekka Show grounds in Bowen Hills. The route travels along Kingsford Smith Drive, towards the city via the suburbs of Hamilton and Bowen Hills.

Anyone can participate with only a $30 registration fee, which goes towards charity.

History:

The first race took place in 1997 with less than 5000 entrants. In 2007 the Bridge to Brisbane attracted a field of up to 30,000 runners, while 2010 saw more than 40,000 people take part.

Originally the race was called the Bridge to Bay and instead of heading from the Gateway Bridge towards Brisbane, it headed towards the coastline finishing at Manly. The end of the race was then moved to New Farm Park. During the race in 2007, the roads in the suburbs of Fortitude Valley and New Farm became gridlocked; traffic congestion prompted another change, moving the finish to the Ekka Showgrounds.
