Brisbane Sounds
Established to promote Brisbane bands and the Brisbane music scene to the UK and Europe
Brisbane Sounds produces an annual compilation CD of Brisbane artists’ to promote Brisbane worldwide as a ‘music city’ as well as presenting and promoting regular live gigs which displays Brisbane’s thriving music scene.
In 2010, Brisbane Sounds was represented at the world’s largest music conference SXSW in Texas, they have introduced the Brisbane gig guide iPhone App and established Young Bloods. Blair Hughes has created Young Bloods as a partnership between Starving Kids and Brisbane Sounds which enables students from the Music Industry College to gain real life experience and skills in running their own music venue. Blair Hughes has combined his two passions; teaching and music to target young people looking to get more experience in the industry.
At Brisbane Sounds, they aim to create records which serve three purposes. The first is that it can be used as a marketing tool for Brisbane, the second is that it is distributed to radio, press and A&R representatives and the third is to create an audio artefact that can be played from start to finish by music fans in Brisbane and globally.
Further down the track Brisbane Sounds will be launching a TV pilot as well as a documentary focusing on the state and role of the Brisbane music scene in 2011.
History:Brisbane Sounds started in October 2006 when Blair Hughes finished his degree in Education and Behavioural Studies at UQ. Hughes produced Brisbane Sounds as a way to showcase the Brisbane music scene, creating a unique marketing tool designed to highlight the quality and diversity and promote Brisbane as a music city.
