4MBS Classic FM
4MBS Classic FM is a classical music FM radio station.
4MBS is a community radio station devoted to playing the very best in classical music. On May 2011 4MBS became digital, also known as MBS light, a digital service devoted to cater for the many listeners who have an interest in classical music. Since 4MBS is focused on playing music from the 1920’s to the 1950’s majority of listeners are fifty years old and above.
The station itself features weekly programs, including midweek masterpieces and Thursday night opera, which are becoming the main feature of 4MBS Classic FM.
4MBS is now operating twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week on the current frequency 103.7 MHz.
History:In March 1979, 4MBS Classic FM commenced broadcasting with Michael Toohey introducing the Ode to St Cecila by Purcell – St Cecila being the Patron Saint of music. The station rented a small area under Block A at the Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education (now QUT) Kelvin Grove Campus. In 1993 they purchased a large house in Coorparoo where they are currently located.
