SBS branching into HD market
SBS Television is unique to Australia, and to the world. It is a multicultural and multilingual service that combines the best and most diverse programming from around the world with quality and innovative local productions that expose the dynamism of Australia’s cultural diversity.
Due to an increase in demand and opportunity to go digital, SBS separated its programming across two new channels in 2008, SBS 1 and SBS 2. This was supported by a marketing campaign “Six Billion Stories and counting…”
SBS has been using the second channel as a means to replay shows traditionally viewed on SBS 1 at different times, allowing greater audience viewership. SBS 2 is also becoming the main channel for sports broadcasting, with a focus of world football.
