Department of Broadband, Communications & Digital Economy

Government agency to develop and deliver communications policy and programs

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) is the lead Australian Government agency supporting Australians to realise the full potential of the digital economy.

The department has four main focus areas which include; transforming the structure of telecommunications, facilitating the switch to digital television and enhancing the broadcasting sector, realising the digital economy as well as enabling a good customer experience.

Over the next three years, DBCDE, in its Corporate Plan 2011-13, aims to roll out the National Broadband Network, improve regional communication services, support the transition to digital broadcasting and reshape regulation to support these new technologies. These projects support its vision to help Australians communicate.

The DBCDE also provides advice to other government departments on postal policy and legislation as well as issues affecting the postal industry.
