SBS Digital Radio
A range of digital stations from SBS
SBS Digital Radio is a series of nine digital stations available Australia-wide. SBS Digital Radio’s target audience is broad, with an emphasis on foreign-language listeners as it broadcasts in more than 68 languages.
The digital stations are complimentary to SBS’ analogue programming. This includes simulcasting SBS analogue stations, a time-shift service that broadcasts SBS’ analogue stations two hours later and the BBC World Service in both English and in-language streams.
The station hosts basic SBS channels, SBS 1 and SBS 2, World News Australia, which is presented in English and broadcasts cross-cultural news. SBS PopAsia specifically focuses on Asian pop music. Finally, SBS Chill primarily focuses on world music.
The SBS Radio website provides information about all SBS Radio channels, including schedules, programs, podcasts and digital stations.
Listeners can find SBS Digital Radio by searching their DAB+ (digital) radio or through the website. DAB+ radio is currently only available in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, with more locations to be added progressively.
History:SBS Digital Radio became available in Brisbane in May, 2009. Digital radio provides listeners with better sound quality and reception. It is also easier to find SBS Digital Radio because it is located by name not frequency. SBS has taken advantage of the new technology to provide listeners with new programs and double the content of their existing analogue station 93.3 FM.
